If only brain tumour research could be funded in the same way as leukaemia and other cancers

Sheila Hancock CBE hosts Business Reception at the University of Portsmouth

Sheila Hancock CBE, Actor, Author & Chancellor of the University of Portsmouth, hosted a Business reception at the dedicated Brain Tumour Research Centre at the University of Portsmouth.  She shared her personal story of her own grandson’s diagnosis http://blog.braintumourresearch.org/images/stories/file/Microsoft%20Word%20-%20Jack%20Byam%20Shaw’s%20Story.pdf and how she became patron of member charity Ali’s Dream.

The reception was titled THE BRAIN… The Battleground of Cancer and guests were welcomed with drinks and canapes before being taken on a tour of the lab.  They were also able to see for themselves the Wall of Hope, including the tiles that had been placed on the wall in return for individuals and organisations sponsoring a day of research at the centre http://blog.braintumourresearch.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=128&Itemid=196

Presentations included a welcome from Sheila and an overview of the progress that is being made at the centre by Professor Geoff Pilkington, as well as sharing three video productions which articulate the reason we need to engage with the corporate sector to attract significant funding into this woefully underfunded area.

It was great to see such a wonderful turnout from the business and local community.
